Civil Forfeiture

I am well known for my work in the defense of civil forfeiture cases. These cases arise when the government attempts to seize your property, such as a motor vehicle or even your home or boat, by claiming that there is a sufficient "nexus" between the car, home or boat and the crime with which you are charged. Civil forfeiture is often an issue in DWI cases. Through my success in litigation, I have helped to restructure the Nassau County law of civil forfeiture, making it more fair to the clients that I serve. 

Criminal Defense

I offer full representation in all aspects of criminal matters. Clients can avail themselves of my legal services during the pre-arrest investigative stages, or at anytime after an arrest or arraignment has occurred.

Real Estate

I offer full representation in all real estate matters. Whether you are buying or selling a home, co-op, condo or commercial property, or just refinancing, I can assist you. In addition, I can help you to obtain surveys, building permits, and certificates of occupancy.

Landlord-Tenant

I cover all areas of landlord-tenant matters, and represent either the landlord or tenant in eviction proceedings. I also prepare and file orders in enforcement proceedings or pending evictions, and for the enforcement of post-judgment relief. My handling of landlord-tenant matters are restricted to Nassau County and Suffolk County.

Vehicle and Traffic Offenses

I offer complete representation in all areas of vehicle and traffic law, including simple traffic violations, an arrest for a suspended license, DWI, road rage, and the resulting vehicle forfeiture proceeding. I also handle trucking violations and appear at night sessions of the village courts. I also appear at the Department of Motor Vehicles for administrative hearings involving the denial, suspension or revocation of an operator's license or a commercial driver's license. I can also represent you in handling traffic violations in the upstate counties, town, and village courts.

Wills and Estates

Many of us put this most important task off until an unexpected illness, injury or death occurs, leaving family members with an unnecessary burden. I offer estate planning consultations and will prepare your living trust, last will & testament, health care proxy/living will, and power of attorney. I also probate wills and estates as well as defend estates involved in contests. 

In providing services in this area of law, I will come to your residence, health care facility or hospital, if necessary.

Businesses and Corporations

Are you thinking about starting a new business or acquiring an existing business? I can assist you in every aspect of the transaction, including preparing, negotiating or reviewing the buy/sell agreement, management agreement, employment agreement, and lease. I can also prepare and file the documents needed to establish a corporation, limited liability company or limited liability partnership. I will also assist you in applying for licensing from the state liquor authority. Should the need arise, I can also commence proceedings to enforce the provisions of confidentiality agreements and non-compete agreements.

Mental Hygiene Law Article 81 Proceedings

When advanced age, infirmity or mental disease strike, we are sometimes left without anyone to look after our well being or manage our property and assets. Article 81 of the New York State mental hygiene law gives us a way to correct this problem. If you have a family member or loved one who is effected with an illness or disease, either physical or mental, contact me for a consultation. I can file a petition on behalf of your family member or loved one under the mental hygiene law and have the court designate you or another qualified individual to act as the legal guardian of the incapacitated person and their assets. Doing this will allow the incapacitated person to live a more comfortable, worry free, and dignified life.

Bank Closings and Foreclosures

This law firm also provides legal services to banks, mortgage bankers, private individuals, and other lending institutions located in or out of New York State. I provide representation as a settlement agent at mortgage closings and as the attorney of record in foreclosure proceedings.

Building Code Violations

Municipalities frequently cite homeowners, tenants, and other owners of property with violations, such as renovations without a permit. I defend the homeowner or tenant against the municipality's allegations, which may include: renovations and alterations without a permit, illegal apartments and overcrowding violations, and tree removal without a permit. I assist the client in taking the steps necessary to cure the violation and I subsequently defend them in court proceedings.  

Animal Rights

If your dog has been accused of attacking someone, it could be euthanized by court order. The court can also restrict the animal's movements on or off your property and could order the dog to be muzzled when taken out in public. A judge has the authority to make the ultimate determination. I can represent you and your pet in the court proceeding to protect you and your pet's rights. I also provide representation for clients defending a lawsuit for negligence or a dog bite case which is not covered under an insurance policy, as well as people accused of animal cruelty and neglect.

Defense of Registered Nurses' Professional Licenses

I handle the defense of nurses accused of patient abuse, failing to report an accident, proceedings held in connection to a drug offense or DWI, forged instruments (example: charting issues), and abuse of or stealing drugs.  Any crime committed or allegation of professional misconduct by an R.N. may result in questioning in front of the Office of Professional Discipline or New York State Attorney General. Any conviction or adverse determination can result in license suspension or revocation. I will help to protect your professional license.
